This kirin painting was the first piece I started when I moved to Los Angeles. I didn’t finish it until 3 years later. it was a fun exercise of understanding how to utilize gravity with paint through the drips. In modern day, kirin means giraffe in Japanese, and is derived from the Chinese word qilin. It is depicted in a multitude of chimeric ways, but what remains consistent is that kirin represents peace, healing and divinity.
